FIT manages new recycling areas

From now on FIT will manage two recycling depots in Collcerola and in Sant Andreu. This decision is due to the new process in city cleaning matters that the mayor of Barcelona Jordi Hereu and the town councillor for environment, Imma Mayol, presented on December 10th in the new district recycling area in the Montserrat Gardens, in Eixample, which is one of the new four recycling collection points created in the city.

This network of recycling collection points is managed by Tersa, a public company that has 86 persons, 23 of whom come from insertion companies such as FIT Trinijove, Fundació Engrunes i Recursos Solidaris.

The clothes selection area

The clothes selection area in FIT is of major importance because it’s where clothes are sorted out to separate those that are usable from those that aren’t. It’s one of the main activities in FIT, the oldest one, even before we became a Foundation. The process is very modern and fifteen people work in our Barcelona premises, one third of all the workers in the Foundation.

The clothes selection process has two main parts. In the first is where we separate the useful clothes form those that are not. The second part consists of selecting them depending on the season. There are four women working in the first part of the process and the can classify almost 1.500 kilos a day

If we see the figures that amount of clothes that are sorted out, selected and classified in one whole year can reach up to 1.4 million kilos which represent a 60 % of all what we receive.

We can have surprises with the bags of clothes that have been given to us: we can find wallets -with money inside-, orthopaedic legs, silver coins, dentures and even bags with domestic garbage inside.

Story of an insertion

I’ll try to make my story very short because I’m sure there are others better and more interesting than mine.

Four years ago, two persons in a van asked me in a very polite manner, while I was sleeping on cardboards by a building near the Rambles, whether I wanted to go with them to a residence for homeless people, in the District of Sant Martí. After a very short thought and due to the very good way the asked me, thanks to God, I accepted to go with them.

They received me in some provisional premises that belonged to the Town Council, in Sant Andreu District. I had an interview with Eva (the social assistant) and Tony (the educator) and they told me the program I’d have to follow.  I accepted immediately and, suddenly, I find myself -after being living in the streets in a limit of survival no human been can stand- to have my own room, this is , a shelter and all the services that all person needs to restart his life from zero, or below zero (which was my case)

I won’t explain the circumstances that took me to sleep in the streets because, now I know, It was mostly all my fault.

In a place for homeless people,  with a room, normal hours, clean clothes, daily shower and a personnel to whom I’ll have to thank the rest of my life, and not exclusively for their professional job. Engaged with myself and with those that were taking care of me, I follow a very positive recovering process. The fact that Eva helped me to get paid 375 euros through the Minimum Insertion Income (RMI) allowed me, after two years, to pay my cigarettes without having to beg for them in the streets.

Because I was getting paid the  RMI I was offered to go work in FIT four hours a day together with another friend of mine: and here is what I call “catching the right train”   being in the right station at the right time. And I caught it, thank God, and I still am in it, for several reasons. I try to work the best I can, they thank me very gratefully, I’ve been two years working with a legal contract with no interruption and I really got extremely happy when a member of the personnel of FIT told me one day that I was “already a member of the staff”.

They knew I came from the street with very bad addictions. But, here I am to prove that if there is good will and if you work hard there are many people around you, like those that were -and still are- around me today, to guide you in your work and life. I’m happy again and since a year ago I can see my children as before with peace of mind.

Díns Garraf helps in the Cubelles Summer Fiesta

Thanks to the Cubelles town Council, Díns Garraf participated in different tasks in the preparation of the summer fiesta that took place between the 12th and 16th of August. The workers of FIT were responsible of part of the instalments for the Fire Works, the concert, the night dance and the theatre mounting where the were playing “The Idiots Game” with the actors Joan Pera and Lloll Bertran.

Joan Lluís Climent, director de Díns Garraf, publicly thanked the workers that participated because of their predisposition to work in the week-ends of August –more than eight hours a day and in very uncommon hours in the early morning- for their dedication and sterling job that implied giving a very good image of our project during the preparation of the summer fiesta. In the picture you can see the workers of Díns Garraf with the actors Joan Pera and Lloll Bertran.

FITt, listed in the RELI

FIT is already in the Electronic Register of Bidding Companies (RELI). This Register is managed by the Administrative Contracting Consultative Board belonging to the Generalitat and lists the companies that want to offer their services to the different Public Administrations.
This will enable us to simplify the steps to follow in the concession of public contracts, due to the possibility the administration in checking electronically all the awarding criteria the company will have in order to manage the contracts.

The RELI won’t only help us to avoid all new and repetitive paperwork in each procedure but also helps us to know about new minor contracts o procedures related to labour insertion.
